Company culture has been the subject of many news stories lately.  For better or worse, we get a peek into the inner workings of a company from time to time.  This is especially true when something goes wrong.  This can also be a great opportunity to ask ourselves if we’re doing the right thing.  If we take a look in the mirror do we like what we see?

Our culture can be defined by a strong set of values that guide our company each day.  We have great expectations for ourselves and our communities where we work and live.  To understand who we are and what we believe, look no further than our mission and values statement.

Great Western Bank’s mission is to Make Life Great by taking outstanding care of our customers and creating long-term relationships.  We want to create meaningful relationships that matter.  If we aren’t making life great then we aren’t doing our jobs. 

Our values are defined by simple actions.  We want to Do the Right Thing.  This is why getting to know our customers is so important.  What’s right for one person may not be right for another.  

We will always Put the Customer First.  With each decision made, we first ask ourselves if this is the best possible solution or outcome.  Our actions must be a reflection of our customers' best interests.

We treat everyone as though they were family.  This motto guides our third value:  Be Authentic and Respectful.  This goes back to what we learned in kindergarten.  Treat others as you would like to be treated.  Simple really but not always easy to execute if you don’t have the right people in place.

Get the Basics Right.  Understanding our values and what drives us is the impetus behind everything we do.  By doing the right thing and putting the customer first, all else will follow.  This helps Drive Performance and Results, not the other way around.

Empower Locally, Think Globally.  Our people at Great Western Bank have the power to make decisions based on what’s right for their unique local markets.  At the same time, they are encouraged to think globally and make decisions that will benefit the greater good and community as a whole. 

This is our culture at Great Western Bank.  We believe this is what separates us from the rest.  Some food for thought.
