Four times a year, Great Western Bank awards Making Life Great Grants to worthy non-profit organizations within our nine-state footprint.

Here’s what our latest round of recipients had to say about creating solutions for stronger communities.

Black Hills Community Loan Fund

Onna LeBeau, Executive Director of Black Hills Community Loan Fund, Inc.

“Black Hills Community Loan Fund, Inc. is a non-profit loan fund and an emerging Native Community Development Financial Institution located in Rapid City, SD. We’re very appreciative of the grant provided by Great Western Bank’s Making Life Great Grant. BHCLF offers financial literacy courses as well as various loan products to individuals in and around Rapid City. The products we have developed are specifically designed to meet the needs of our community members and include debt consolidation, consumer loans, energy efficient home appliance loans, and gap financing in the form of down payment and closing cost loans. We are eager to utilize the grant to further strengthen the financial foundation of the underserved population in the Black Hills Area.”

Habitat for Humanity Sarpy County

Shelby Rust, Development & Special Events Coordinator, Habitat of Sarpy County

“Habitat for Humanity of Sarpy County is extremely grateful for the $10,000 grant awarded to us by Great Western Bank! We are also thankful for Great Western Bank employee Andy Cox who serves on our board of directors and helps lead our mission. Habitat for Humanity of Sarpy County brings people together from all walks of life to achieve a common goal: building the foundation of a healthy future. Our partners and volunteers come from all over the Sarpy County and the Omaha metro area to help us build homes and improve lives. From our staff, many volunteers, and partner families we thank you Great Western Bank for helping us change lives!”

Multi-Cultural Center of Sioux Falls Staff

Christy Nicolaisen, Executive Director, Multi-Cultural Center of Sioux Falls

“This grant is crucial to the continued success of our JSP program. We run a job skill program completely off donations such as from Great Western Bank. We don’t charge the clients or the businesses we place participants at so it is the best fit for both sides. We have placed over 210 people in employment that have also retained their positions for 90 days or more. We teach U.S. culture, how to interview in the U.S, create resumes and cover letters and assist our participants to overcome barriers they have such as no phone, no computer, the need to have interpreters, etc. We are very grateful for the donation from Great Western Bank as this helps the diverse community move towards self-sufficiency and become successful citizens of Sioux Falls.”

Lincoln County Community Development Staff

Nancy Striebel, Executive Director, Lincoln County Community Development

“Lincoln County CDC is very excited to receive a Making Life Great Grant from Great Western Bank. LCCDC is an affordable housing nonprofit. Over the years we have provided housing and housing assistance for hundreds of people. With this grant we can continue to maintain our certification and provide Home Buyer Education to first-time home buyers in our service area of Lincoln County, Nebraska. This class is required for a number of mortgage loans and for any first-time home buyer that receives down payment and closing cost assistance. When we received notice from Kathleen Matthews, Business Banker at North Platte Great Western Bank, we truly shouted for joy! This truly means so much to our organization."
