When our communities thrive, we all benefit. GWB’s community partners across our nine state footprint are finding unique ways to solve pressing issues. Read what our latest grant recipients are doing to help Make Life Great in their own neighborhoods.

City Impact of Lincoln, NE

Brad Bryan, Executive Director

“We are so thankful and blessed to receive this tremendous investment to help Make Life Great for vulnerable youth in our community. This grant money will promote literacy through one-on-one student and volunteer tutoring. I look forward to working with everyone at Great Western Bank to help make an IMPACT.”

Habitat for Humanity of Yankton County

Julie Dykstra, Executive Director

“Everyone deserves an opportunity for a better life. The Great Western Making Life Grant received by Habitat for Humanity of Clay and Yankton Counties will help build strength, stability and self-reliance for a low to moderate income individual or family, who desires to become a homeowner and make improvements to a home they already own.

The self-empowerment created by Habitat’s affordable housing programs help homeowner families eliminate barriers to a better, healthier, more financially stable life, but it also fosters local economic growth. Habitat spends on an average $120,000 in our local community for supplies, materials, land and sub-contract labor causing a ripple effect within the community.

Impact is realized within the life of a family, but also within our community. Since 1996, Habitat for Humanity of Yankton County has served forty-four families through its homeownership program and seven families through its home repair program. We believe that with a little help, we all have the potential to stand on our own.”

Midlands Latino Community Development

Marta Sonia Londono, Executive Director

“We are very grateful for this Making Life Great grant from Great Western Bank. This grant will provide Latinos with opportunities to generate economic growth by providing financing products, development services and community development that advances their ability to develop a sustainable future in the Midlands.”

SENCA

Vicky McNealy, Executive Director

“Southeast Nebraska Community Action Partnership, Inc. (SENCA) will use the grant funds to administer our financial literacy classes during the 2017-2018 school year. SENCA SMART (Strategic Money And Resource Techniques) is presented to 8th and 12th grade students and includes a poverty simulation followed by 5 classroom sessions. Topics covered in the sessions include: You and Your Money; Budgeting; Savings and Checking; Credit and You; and a session that focuses on banking including information from The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. SENCA has been presenting this financial literacy program since 2011. To date, we have impacted 2,638 students."
