Creating Solutions for Stronger Communities

We’re proud of our commitment to community. We have some great partners who are creating solutions for stronger communities. Great Western Bank’s Making Life Great Grants program is helping to Make Life Great across our nine-state footprint. Here is a sampling of testimonials from our latest recipients:

Angel's Share in Omaha NE

Angel’s Share, Inc - Omaha, NE

Ed Shada, Executive Director

“We are grateful for the funds as we work to open the first apartment complex for youth aging out of foster care.  There are over 70 jobs open in the Blair area from trades to transportation that feature healthcare benefits.  This is the first step in developing a continuum of care that will extend from youth aging out of the foster care system to an assisted living facility.  Many thanks to Great Western Bank and their foresight in assisting Angels Share with this endeavor.”

CEDARS Home for Children - Lincoln, NE

Jim Blue, President and CEO

“Too many kids come to CEDARS Emergency Shelter without stability in their lives and that includes their education. They are often behind in classes and not involved with school resources. Thanks to this grant from Great Western Bank, CEDARS is able to provide inspiration, guidance and support to help these kids successfully integrate and receive the full benefits of our local school system.”

Community Action Head Start

Community Action Head Start - Nebraska

Heather Laughman, Communications and Development Coordinator

“The funds that you helped us to secure will go such a long way. So much goes into making sure the children we serve are ready for kindergarten – from providing support to parents, to ensuring children receive medical, dental, and behavioral health services, to providing classroom instruction, and so much more. We cannot express enough how much this support means, and we are proud to have Great Western Bank as one of our partners!

Omaha Home for Boys

Omaha Home for Boys - Omaha, NE

Lori Bechtold, Development Leader

“The mission of Omaha Home for Boys is to support and strengthen youth, young adults and families through services that inspire and equip them to lead independent and productive lives.  For nearly 100 years, the home has been empowering at-risk youth with the skills and confidence needed to transition from a state of crisis to those of safety and growth.  We serve more than 300 young men and women annually through our three core programs:  Inspiration Hill Residential Care, Jacobs’ Place Transitional Living and Branching Out Independent Living.  Our support programs, such as 4-H, our Youth Employment Program, Omaha Home for Boys School and our Wellness Program, allow us to shape well-rounded youth who are ready to lead independent, productive lives.”

Youth & Family Services

Youth & Family Services - Rapid City, SD

Susan Fedell, CEO

“Youth & Family Services is deeply honored to partner with Great Western Bank in “Making Life Great” for the youth in western South Dakota. Together we’re ensuring that children in western South Dakota develop healthy bodies, inquiring minds, wholesome relationships, compassionate hearts, creative spirits, the conviction to stand up for themselves and others, and the courage to build a better society.”

“Youth & Family Services would like to thank Great Western Bank for the generous grant award of $20,000 that will allow us to expand our existing facilities on our East Adams campus to include increased access to infant/toddler and preschool child care, advocacy services and other programming for middle school aged children, father-focused programming, an educational greenhouse, expansion of substance abuse prevention services, and outdoor learning and recreation spaces. Upon completion, YFS hopes to serve an additional 2,100 children and their families.”
