Creating Solutions for Stronger Communities
Great Western Bank recently awarded another round of Making Life Great grants to worthy non-profit organizations within our nine-state footprint. Read what our recipients had to say:
inCOMMON Community Development of Omaha
The Mission of inCOMMON Community Development is to alleviate poverty at the root level by uniting and strengthening vulnerable neighborhoods. They will be using the funds for their urban youth development program. This program exists to empower low-income youth with the skills, opportunities, and support needed to experience economic success and break the cycle of poverty. The effectiveness of their youth development program is found in its emphasis on leadership development. In addition to offering tutoring support and a safe community space, inCOMMON’s youth program engages youth in community volunteerism.
Omaha Association for the Blind
Omaha Association of the Blind (OAB) is committed to being a continually evolving resource for the visually impaired by providing a platform to increase social, intellectual and overall welfare of individuals. “OAB is grateful for the generosity of Great Western Bank and the assistance the Making Life Great Grant will provide to better the homes of many living at Walter Roberts Manor. Walter Roberts Manor is the meeting place of the Omaha Association of the Blind and offers affordable, accessible and safe housing for the blind, disabled and elderly folks in the Omaha Community.” - Mark Bulger-President
HelpCare Clinic of Kearney, NE
On May 9, 2019, Great Western Bank in Kearney presented an MLG Grant Donation to Helpcare Clinic. Accepting the donation were Becky Squires, Executive Director; Julie Weir, Board President; Keith Lindvall, Board Treasurer; and Roxanne Bascom, Board Secretary. HelpCare Clinic was established to meet the proven need for a safety net clinic to serve the uninsured in Buffalo and Kearney counties.
Bidwell Riverside Child Development Center of Des Moines, IA
“We are so grateful to the generous funding from Great Western Bank for our Child Development Center. Most of our children come from low-income working class families and they would not be able to afford having their children attend our Child Development Center without some level of financial assistance. The funds from Great Western Bank allow us to help subsidize those families so their children will be successful when they enter kindergarten” - Tim Shanahan, Executive Director Bidwell Riverside Center
Aeon of Minneapolis, MN
Aeon is grateful for our growing relationship with Great Western Bank’s Twin Cities Market Manager, Steve Block. Steve has been a strong advocate for Aeon’s work, particularly since Aeon acquired six affordable apartment properties in Bloomington in September 2017. Over the last year Steve has met with several Aeon staff to explore a deeper partnership, and Aeon is eager to grow our collaborative efforts to benefit the Bloomington community and Twin Cities region.
