Making Life Great Grants

Creating Solutions for Stronger Communities

Great Western Bank recently awarded another round of Making Life Great grants to worthy non-profit organizations within our nine-state footprint.  Read what our recipients had to say about creating solutions for stronger communities.

Kansas City Free Eye Clinic

Kansas City Free Eye Clinic

Birju Solanki, Executive Director, The Kansas City Free Eye Clinic

“Each year The Kansas City Free Eye Clinic provides over 300 people with sight-saving eye exams and makes each day brighter and clearer with eyeglasses - services we provide for free because everyone needs their vision to take advantage of opportunities life has in store for them. We'd like to thank to Great Western Bank this giving season for "Making Life Great" for even more people with their generosity of a $10,000 grant. This grant will make it possible for us to invest in our capacity - greatly needed technology that will free up hundreds of precious volunteer hours and make it easier for people to find us, schedule appointments, and stay on top of their eye care. Thank you from all of us at The Kansas City Free Eye Clinic for the care and concern you have for our community!

High Hope Employment Services

High Hope Employment Services accepts a grant from GWB

Andrea Rowland, Executive Director, High Hope Employment Services, Inc.

“On behalf of the board of directors, staff, and residents of Friendship Apartments we would like to thank Great Western Bank for the generous grant in the amount of $10,000.00 to go towards capital improvements for our apartment complex.  We plan on replacing 8 heating and cooling units within the apartments.  We have a very small budget when it comes to our supportive housing program.  Replacing aging equipment, such as the heating and cooling units is an expense that would have to come out of our budget for other programs we provide.  Businesses like Great Western Bank are heroes in our community and to the people we support!”

Mid-Iowa Community Action (MICA)

AEON accepts a grant from GWB

Virginia Brown, Director of Advancement, Aeon

“Thank you for Great Western Bank’s generous grant of $5,000.  With this gift, you are part of a critical support system that gives those facing the greatest barriers a chance.  Every day, thousands of Minnesotans – our neighbors – are just one financial mishap away from homelessness.  Your donation gives them the chance to overcome the unforeseen emergencies in life.  Everyone deserves a home.  With your support, Aeon will continue addressing the every-increasing need for affordable housing.  Thank you Great Western Bank for joining us in this fight.  We are so thrilled!”

Heartland Family Service (HFS)

Heartland Family Service accepts a grant from GWB

Chris Sewall, Program Director, Heartland Family Service

“The gift of $5,000 will be so valuable in helping us to create a welcoming space to provide parenting support in a loving and comfortable environment. With this generous gift, we will be able to create a beautiful, safe, trauma-informed space for families to gather with trained and experienced family support workers to provide learning opportunities through an evidenced-based program designed to make families in crisis, stable and strong.

REACH Pikes Peak

REACH of Pikes Peak accepts a grant from GWB

Patrice Ravenscroft, Interim Executive Director/CEO, REACH, Pikes Peak

“REACH Pikes Peak serves over 12,000 community members and provides over 7,000 services yearly with a mission to increase the capacity of low-income individuals to become self-sufficient.  With the incredibly generous contribution from Great Western Bank REACH Pikes Peak will impact our community members living in poverty with an opportunity to pursue post-secondary education in our Transitions to Independence program (TIP).
