Midwest Floods Disaster Relief

By Doug Bass, President & COO

Our communities are hurting. Historic floodwaters have wiped away portions of our Main Streets and devastated farm lands. We want our customers to know that we are in this together.

As part of our ongoing efforts to help Make Life Great in each of our communities where we do business, Great Western Bank has awarded two Making Life Great Grants to communities hit hard by the flooding.

Hamburg Flood Recovery Grant from Great Western Bank

Great Western Bank recently presented a $10,000.00 Making Life Great Grant to the City of Hamburg Economic Development Fund to help rebuild the Iowa city torn apart by the March storms. Mayor Cathy Crain said, “It means the world to us that our bank knows us so well. They know our people are built of deep fortitude and will prevail. And, to prove it, they put their money alongside our future.”

The American Red Cross Dakotas Region also received a $10,000.00 grant to aid with recovery efforts in hard-hit towns across the state of South Dakota. According to Abigail Peterson, Chief Development Officer with the American Red Cross Dakotas Region, the grant money will help to stabilize area economies.

“The American Red Cross is incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received from Great Western Bank and the Making Life Great grant of $10,000 for flood relief. The American Red Cross has been preparing for, responding to and helping people recover from recent flooding that has impacted much of the Midwest. Thanks to Great Western Bank’s generosity, trained Red Cross workers have been able to provide shelter, food, relief items, and one-on-one casework assistance to affected families. This gift helps ensure people are not alone during these difficult times.”

In addition to helping with community development loans, Bank employees have also been busy volunteering in flood struck communities by helping to load supplies at warehouses. For Great Western Bank, providing investments in designated disaster areas is a natural extension of its mission to help Make Life Great by creating solutions for stronger communities.
