Online Account Opening FAQ

Current customers may also apply for an account online through their Great Western ebanking online banking or through the mobile app.
Applications can be submitted online for the following account types:
- Checking Account
- Basic Savings Account
- Money Market Account
- Certificate of Deposit
Only personal accounts can be opened online at this time.
Yes. More than one account can be opened online, either within one application or multiple applications.

Both current and non-Great Western Bank customers 18 years of age or older can apply for an account online. You must be a U.S. citizen or resident alien to open your account online.
Minors cannot apply online but can be assigned as a beneficiary. You will need to include the beneficiary’s full name, social security number and relationship to the applicant.
New customers must reside within one of the following states: ND, SD, MN, NE, IA, KS, MO, CO, AZ.
The online application process utilizes third party data to validate personal information as well as credit reporting history to ask Knowledge Based Authentication questions to confirm the applicant’s identity. Minors do not have the credit reporting background necessary to complete this verification.
To submit an online application, you will need the following:
- Your Social Security Number: Your social security number allows us to adhere to government regulations and to verify your identity.
- A U.S. Government Issued ID: We request this additional information to assist with verification (e.g. driver’s license, passport or state ID).
- A Credit/Debit Card or U.S. Checking/Savings Account: We require a minimum deposit to open your new account. Current customers will have the option to fund their new account with a transfer from an existing Great Western Bank account.
You will also need to provide personal information, including your date of birth and former mailing address(es). If you are not a U.S. citizen or resident alien and do not have this information, please visit a Great Western Bank location near you for account opening.
You’ll need the same information that is required when opening an individual account—but you’ll need it for both applicants. For details, view “What do I need to complete an application?" above. Please note that each applicant will need to sign the signature card.
Accounts opened online have three different funding methods to choose from:
- Transfer from an external checking or savings account
- Debit/Credit Card
- Internal transfer from a Great Western Bank checking or savings account (existing customers only)
Yes. Funding limits vary by account type. Please refer to the funding page for these limits when you are opening your account.
Your new account will be funded with your opening deposit on the fourth business day after your account is opened. If you are an existing customer and are funding your new account with a transfer from an existing account, the new account will be funded in one business day.
All submitted applications will be reviewed within two business days. Once your application has been approved, you will receive an email stating that your account has been opened.
Creating a username and password will allow you to log in to complete an existing application, check the status of a submitted application or begin a new application. You may also upload supporting documentation, obtain your account number or view disclosures and agreements for any accounts opened online. Log in by clicking here, within one of the emails you received during the application process or on our home page.
If you have forgotten your password, please click the “Forgot Password?” button. If you have forgotten your username or your account becomes locked after you have exceeded the total number of login attempts, please contact our Great Western ebanking Customer Service at 1-800-952-2043.
You will be eligible to enroll in Great Western ebanking, Great Western Bank’s digital banking platform, within one business day after your account has been opened. Click here to enroll online. You may also enroll through the Great Western ebanking mobile app. Please note: You will need your account number to enroll. To access it, log in and your account number will be listed under the “Completed Applications” section.

You will receive your debit card and/or checks within 7-10 business days after your account has been funded.
Yes. After selecting login credentials on the Personal Information page within the application process, you may log in to complete your application at a later date. Click here or within one of the emails you have received to log in to your account. If there is no activity within the application after 25 days, your application will be cancelled.
